Child Safety

Placing the safety and well-being of our patrons above all else! Child safety is our top priority.

Child Safety Procedures

THPRD, in operating its various instructional programs and day camps, models the following standards:

  • Child Care Centers outlined in Oregon Administrative Rules (OAR 414-300-0000 through 414-300-0420)
  • Child Neglect outlined in Oregon State Law (ORS 163.545)

For All Programs

Occasionally, parents, guardians or caregivers of children are not present by the end of class or program. Should this occur, the child will be taken to an area supervised by staff until the responsible adult arrives. THPRD staff will do the following:

  • Attempt to reach the family by telephone.
  • Call emergency telephone and alternate contacts, if provided (and if necessary).
  • Call the police/sheriff non-emergency number if a parent or alternate contacts cannot be reached within 30 minutes.

Because Park District facilities are open to the public, procedures for arrivals and departures have been developed to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone. Your cooperation in complying with these procedures is appreciated.

For Drop-in Programs

  • Children under 10 years of age must be accompanied or visually supervised by a parent, guardian or caregiver at all times when using THPRD facilities.

For Instructional Classes

  • Children under 10 are always to be escorted into a THPRD building. Never drop off a child outside the building expecting him/her to walk in alone or with another child.
  • When dropping off or picking up your child, be certain that a THPRD staff member acknowledges your child is arriving or leaving the classroom/pool.

For Aquatic Programs and Conestoga Recreation Programs

  • For aquatic programs and Conestoga recreation programs, the parent and guardian or caregiver of children under 10 years of age shall remain on the premises for the duration of the class.

For Camps and After-school Programs

  • Parents, guardians or caregivers must complete the sign-in and sign-out process on a daily basis. They are encouraged to make comments on the daily log about any changes from the norm (for example, an early pickup, alternate pickup, not approved for field trips, etc.).
  • A child will not be permitted to leave with any person other than someone designated in writing by the parent. A photo identification will be checked for any designated person picking up a child.
  • If there are any changes to those authorized to pick up your child, or if you will be car pooling with other parents, please advise staff.

Please call the appropriate center's staff if you have any questions or concerns.
