Summertime means fun time with THPRD
Oregonians love summer. And why not? After enduring months of gray and weeping skies, we get to pursue our outdoor passions in the warm embraces of the sun.
Summer and THPRD go hand in hand. We offer an array of activities – many of them free – from June to September that bring people together and make life better in our district.
Of added importance, these activities create healthy, fun and meaningful memories for children of all ages.
Here are just a handful of the opportunities that your Park District will provide this summer:
- Party in the Park, our biggest community event of the year, is set for July 26 at the Terpenning Complex, 158th & Walker Road. It’s a daylong extravaganza with inflatables, arts and crafts, sports, music and more – all of it free. The Family Triathlon will be back, and so will The Classic at T-Hills, an exciting (and free) showcase of vintage cars, trucks and motorcycles.
- Our family-oriented Concert in the Park series has become so popular we’ve expanded it from six concerts to nine. Neighborhood parks across the district will come alive with a variety of musical styles. Spread a blanket, have some food, and watch the kids dance at these evening events starting in late June and continuing into August. All concerts are free.
- Parents are always looking for ways to keep the kids busy during summer vacation. Well, look no further! We offer a huge variety of camps featuring recreation, aquatics, sports, nature science, and the arts. A full list may be found by clicking here.
- Our colorful Rec Mobile will be out again this summer, bringing arts and crafts, games and fun to low-income children who aren’t able to travel to THPRD facilities themselves. Look for the Rec Mobile also at major community events, including our free concerts and Party in the Park.
- Need a great place to play or watch baseball, softball, tennis or other sports this summer? There will be games galore at the Terpenning Complex, Sunset Park and the spectacular new THPRD/PCC Rock Creek Recreation Facility.
I haven’t even touched on swimming at the Somerset and Raleigh outdoor pools, escaping the heat at the Nature Park, enjoying a wedding at the Jenkins Estate, or taking part in special events like Big Truck Day at Conestoga and the Bow Wow Bash at Garden Home. But you get the idea.
For more information on these and other activities, check out our Web site, www.thprd.org. Then make this summer one you won’t soon forget – spend it with THPRD.
