Fitness Classes

Certified fitness professionals teach our classes. We offer a variety of options.

Drop-in Land Aerobics

You may purchase a 20-visit fitness pass for $105 or pay a drop-in fee of $5.50 for one of these fitness classes: Total Body Conditioning, Low Impact Aerobics or Boot Camp. Or you can purchase a 10-visit specialty pass for $83.50 or pay a drop-in fee of $9 for one of these specialty classes: Nia, Pilates, Yoga or Kickboxing.

Weight Room Orientation

Call Conestoga at 503/629-6313 to schedule a short weight room orientation with one of our staff members. Basics of the weight room equipment will be explained.

Land Fitness Programs

Personal Training

Our nationally certified personal trainers will assist you in developing an individual exercise program and discuss basic nutrition, goals and individual limitations during this one-hour private consultation.

Shallow Water Aerobics

Monday-Friday, 8:30-9:30 a.m.

Deep Water Aerobics

Monday-Friday, 8:30-9:30 a.m .
Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6:30-7:30 p.m.

Fitness passes may be used for all aquatic fitness classes, or pay the drop-in fee of $3 in-district, $9 out-of-district.

Fitness Instructors

Carol Gonzalez - Nia
Carol has a B.A. from the University of California Santa Cruz in Theater Arts with a Dance Emphasis. Carol discovered Nia seven years ago, first as a student. Now she is a teacher. She co-founded an imagination-based preschool/kindergarten and danced as a clown at Disneyland.

Ed Miller - Yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi

Ed has successfully undertaken teacher training programs in each of these three physical-arts forms as well as continuing his practice and education in each. He has practiced yoga and tai chi since the early 1980’s and taught since the early 1990’s – Pilates instruction & training was added in the mid-2000’s. Participants in Ed’s classes report experiencing instructional clarity, individual attention, compassion and good humor. His passionate approach supports students learning and enhancement of their personal well-being.


Frank Moon - Boot Camp, Circuit Training, TeenFit

Frank Moon has worked at Conestoga Recreation and Aquatic Center for over 6 years. While at Conestoga Frank has work in a variety of areas including; sports instructor, sports camp coordinator, and most recently over the past year as a group fitness instructor. Frank is currently teaching Boot Camp, Circuit Training, and our Teen Fit program. Frank is a certified group fitness instructor through NETA and is currently in the process of obtaining his personal training certification through ACE. Prior to working at Conestoga Frank played three years of college baseball before earning his degree from the University of Oregon. Frank also coaches varsity baseball at Beaverton High School.

Josie Sparks

Josie has worked for Conestoga Recreation & Aquatic Center for about nine years. Josie has cross-trained in highly competitive outrigger canoe races and participated in several triathlons. Currently, Josie is going to school at PCC and working toward a degree in physical therapy. Josie loves to see the results her clients receive from her classes. She has a motivating and enthusiastic style.

Shelly Gerhart - Yoga

A student of yoga for many years, Shelly decided to share her passion for others by becoming a teacher. In 2007 she bagan her teacher training program and became a certified yoga techer in 2008. Shelly considers herself a lifelong yoga student as he is constantly learning something new through her practice and from her students. Her classes are great for all levels as they focus on breath, proper alignment and body awareness.

Desiree Harrington - Lower Body Workout, Low Impact, Circuit Training, Deep Tissue Massage, Ab attack, TBC

Desiree has been A.C.E certified as a group fitness instructor since November of 2006. She has been teaching classes at Conestoga since November of 2007 and also teaches classes at the Elsie Stuhr Center. Her favorite types of classes to teach are strength- training courses. In Desiree's spare time she loves to snow ski and teach ski lessons at Mt. Hood Meadows. She has been teaching ski lessons for over 28 years with a level III, PSIA.

Connie Flesuras - Aquarobics and Deep Water Aerobics
Connie truly enjoys the physicality of aerobic exercise. She learns the needs of each participant and motivates them at their level of work. Connie has taught water aerobics all over the metro area for years and is a certified AEA fitness instructor.

Lori Walker - Aquarobics and Deep Water Aerobics
Lori has been teaching water aerobics for several years at Conestoga and through out the Park District. She is AEA-certified. Deep Water aerobic participants appreciate her enthusiasm and personalized attention.

John Canova - Deep Water Aerobics
John has been teaching water aerobics for several years at Conestoga. He obtained his AEA fitness instructor's certification and deep water aerobic participants have commented on his thoroughness and attention to a full body workout.

Jennifer Chapin - Aquarobics and Deep Water Aerobics
Jennifer has been teaching water aerobics for several years at Conestoga. She is AEA-certified. Shallow water aerobic participants appreciate her attention and enthusiasm.

Teen Fitness Classes - Registration Classes

TeenFit- Strength & Conditioning

This fitness program will motivate you to continue a healthy lifestyle. Gain endurance, strength, self-esteem, an knowledge in this well rounded program. Class will include weight training, cardio conditioning, all in a positive and welcoming atmosphere. Class will focus on individual goals. (Frank/Desiree)

Calling all athletes! Improve your speed, agility and quickness for your upcoming sport season. (Frank)

Adult Fitness Classes - Registration Classes

Low Impact - Total Body Workout

This class is great for all fitness levels, including beginners. It's an aerobic workout that targets the major muscles of the upper and lower body for toning and endurance. It's a great workout for heart and muscle conditioning. A fun and popular class. (Desiree)

Nia

This class blends dance, martial arts, yoga and more to make fitness fun. You'll love this aerobic workout that is gentle on your joints. Great for toning, stretching and strengthening the whole body. Beginners welcome. (Carol)

Total Body Conditioning

This class offers a total workout. Cardio-step, upper body weights training, ads work and stretching. You will feel like every part of your body has been challenged by the end of each class. (Josie)

Pilates/Yoga

Benefit from a session combining mat-based pilates and yoga. Do movements that are fluid and unforced but precise and controlled to work the weaker muscles and strengthen the "core." Stretch, balance and become stronger using correct alignment and awareness. (Ed)

Yoga Relaxation

Enjoy simple, soothing yoga with stretching and calming meditation techniques. Good class for beginners and those returning from injury orillness. (Mignon)

Yoga - Beginning

This yoga class will teach opening and strengthening techniques. Focus will be on acquiring comfort with basic alignment. This class will enhance awareness of key joints and muscle systems. (Shelly)

Astanga Yoga

Learn the vinyasa technique- flowing movement from pose to counter pose, synchronized with the breath. This is an active classwith vinyasa flows occuring throughout the routine in between the practice of traditional postures. (Jim)

Circuit Training

Get an over all body workout by alternating cardio equipment and exercises with machine intervals. This class extends your workout beyond the weight room and introduces variety and usability of every day objects and movements. Instructor will keep track of the intervals and assist with form. Kick Boxing

This high-energy full body workout will combine the punches of boxing with martial arts kicks. Increase your fitness level while having fun! (Josie)

Cardio Kickboxing

Have fun burning fat and calories while toning your body. This class will include non-contact aerobic kickboxing where you will punch, kick, and move your way towards your next fitness level. (Jeanette)

Hip Hop Fitness

This hip-hop class format is designed to provide a workout and get you dancing in an easy to learn format. Join us and have fun while moving and grooving! (Jeanette)

Ab Attack

30-minute nonstop abdominal workout that is enough to make a grown person cry! Intermediate/Advanced level. (Josie)

Lower Body Workout

This aerobic workout is perfect for the individual looking to strengthen and tone lower body and core areas. Build endurance and strengthen your lower body for the upcoming ski season. The class will include upper body conditioning but will focus on the lower body. (Desiree)

Pilates on the Ball

This fun and effective class will lengthen, stretch, and shape your body! It will add the use of fitness balls, pilates circles and resistance bands to provide an additional challenge to this method of mind-body exercise. (Carol)

Power Pilates

Strengthen your body as well as challenge your core, strength, balance, and flexibility by incorporating Pilates circles, fitness balls, and resistance bands into your exercise routine. (Carol)

Deep Tissue Massage

Learn how to use the fitball and the foam roller to relieve tension by sitting, leaning, and lying on the ball. You will use your body weight to massage muscles and ligaments and to release tension in the soft tissue. Anyone with tight, stiff or sore muscles will benefit from this class. Class will also focus on stretching. All equipment is provided. (Desiree)

Qi Gong for Health and Fitness

Learn traditional Chinese moving meditation used for thousands of years to reduce stress, increase longevity and maintain health and well-being. (Mike)

Tai Chi

Practice this slow-moving exercise from china based on relaxed fluid movement and connection with the "chi" (life force) flowing in the body. Find your center and imporve balance while moving meditatively through the Tai Chi form. Excellent for overall health, well-being and release of stress. (Jim)
