Invasive Tree Removal Scheduled for Forest Hills Park
January 11, 2013
As a part of the Martin Luther King holiday celebration, staff from Portland Community College are volunteering with THPRD to remove invasive trees for the natural areas of Forest Hills Park. This project is scheduled for Monday, January 21st, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Currently, the understory of these natural areas are dominated by English ivy and non-native trees. Once the non-native trees are removed, neighborhood volunteers will be able to get into the area to remove English ivy. Once these invasive plants are thoroughly removed, the area will be planted with native understory trees and shrubs, which will provide a vegetative screen for adjacent neighbors.
If you have any questions or concerns about these efforts, feel free to contact Melissa Marcum, Natural Resources Volunteer Coordinator at 503/629-6305 x2720 or mmarcum@thprd.org.
