THPRD Invites Community to Help Build Special Athletic Field
The Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District has launched a crowdfunding effort to help build an inclusive play area in Oregon’s first athletic field for people with disabilities.
Through the initiative, THPRD is attempting to raise $25,000 during a one-month period. The money would be used for a 5,000-square-foot inclusive play area as part of the district’s future Champions Too field in Aloha. Oregon residents and others across the U.S. are invited to support the effort.
“We envision a future where everyone has access to the physical, emotional, and social benefits of our park district,” said Doug Menke, THPRD general manager. “The inclusive play area and Champions Too are vital parts of that ‘Access for All’ vision, and we invite others to join us in making them happen.”
Champions Too will be Oregon’s first multipurpose athletic field designed for people with disabilities. The “model community sports park” will be part of a 22-acre community park that encompasses THPRD land and Mountain View Middle Schoolproperty owned by the Beaverton School District. Construction is scheduled to start in 2016 and be completed the following year.

Champions Too was chosen to be featured on the crowdfunding site, “Fund Your Park,” through a competitive application process with the National Recreation and Park Association. Fund Your Park is a crowdfunding platform designed by NRPA exclusively for park and recreation agencies.
