THPRD renews holiday giving schedule for children and families

Donation
It’s become a holiday tradition in the Beaverton area: Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District employees working to create a brighter season for low-income children and families.
THPRD will again collect toys, clothing and other items for selected families within its boundaries. The park district will also collect food for the Oregon Food Bank. The public is invited to support both efforts at THPRD facilities throughout the Beaverton area. (See next page for drop-off locations.)
Donations of non-perishable food will be accepted from Nov. 24 to Dec. 19 for the Oregon Food Bank-Washington County, located in Beaverton. As an incentive, THPRD will waive admission to any of its drop-in programs during the three days after Thanksgiving (Nov. 28-30) with a donation of two non-perishable food items.
Examples of drop-in activities include open swim, lap swim, family swim, pickup basketball and volleyball, cardio rooms, and weight rooms.
Starting Dec. 3 and running through Dec. 19, each THPRD center and administrative facility will have a giving tree with “wishing stars” that specify a variety of wish list items.
Donors will be able to take a wishing star from a tree and return with a new, unwrapped gift. All gifts are to be distributed to families that have been identified by the nonprofits Good Neighbor Center and Innovative Housing.
“We invite our patrons to join our employees in this worthwhile effort,” said Doug Menke, THPRD general manager. “The need in our community is substantial.”
Donations will be accepted at the following park district locations:
Aloha Swim Center: 18650 SW Kinnaman Road, Aloha
Beaverton Swim Center: 12850 SW Third Street, Beaverton
Cedar Hills Recreation Center: 11640 SW Park Way, Portland
Fanno Creek Service Center: 6220 SW 112th Avenue, Beaverton
Note: No drop-in programs are offered at the Tualatin Hills Nature Center, Administration Office or Fanno Creek Service Center.
