THPRD to host open houses for 2014-15 preschool year
January 10, 2014
For parents looking to enroll their child in a safe and active preschool program for the 2014-15 school year, the time has come.
The Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District will offer preschool programs for kids five years of age and under at three facilities in the Beaverton area starting this fall.
This month, open house events are planned at each facility to provide guardians with an opportunity to observe the class environment, meet teachers and learn about the range of available programs.
THPRD’s fun, educational preschool programs are led by passionate, caring instructors with many years of day care expertise. They are eager to help children engage, explore and become prepared for kindergarten in the Beaverton School District.
These nine-month programs begin in September 2014 for children ages 2½ – 5. Prices and registration dates vary, so interested parties are encouraged to visit THPRD.org for more information about any of the programs listed below.
Here is the schedule of upcoming open houses:
Fanno Farmers Preschool
Monday, January 13, 1-2 p.m.
Tuesday, January 14, 3-4 p.m.
Fanno Farmhouse: 8405 SW Creekside Place, Beaverton
Located at the historic Fanno Farmhouse, the Fanno Farmers program is inspired by the Reggio Emilia theory of education. Children learn with the same group, in the same room, with the same teachers throughout the school year. It will focus each month on developmentally appropriate activities and intentional play used to promote children's growth. These areas include cognitive, creative, language & literacy, math, motor skills and physical development, pro-social skills, and sensory / science. Programs for 4-5-year-olds will work towards achieving Beaverton School District kindergarten entrance benchmarks by the end of the school year. Days will be filled with songs, stories, books, finger plays, dramatics, arts & crafts, music, dancing, gardening and good nutrition. For more information, call: 503/629-6313.
Cedar Saplings Preschool
Thursday, January 23, 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Cedar Hills Recreation Center: 11640 SW Park Way, Portland
The extensive Cedar Hills program includes classes starting as early as 2½ years of age, providing a nurturing and understanding environment for our littlest preschoolers in order to introduce them to a school setting with an educational foundation that is socially, emotionally and academically sound. As kids progress, their social and emotional development will be enhanced with an emphasis on strong self-help skills, sharing and following instructions. The oldest preschoolers will learn to develop positive work habits, strong listening skills and personal responsibility while preparing to meet the kindergarten entry benchmarks for the Beaverton School District. For more information, call: 503/629-6340.
Nature Kids provides nature-based learning for children ages 3-5 years. It includes half-day morning and afternoon programs that blend preschool learning with daily explorations outside. Developmentally appropriate activities are introduced throughout the year in a curriculum structure that focuses on experiential learning through exposure to nature and the changing seasons. Children will form friendships, learn respect, and have the opportunity to grow with the help of caring teachers and supportive parents in a safe, active and natural environment. Programs for 4-5-year-olds will work towards achieving Beaverton School District kindergarten entrance benchmarks by the end of the school year. For more information, call 503/629-6350.
