Please join us for this community event at the John Quincy Adams Young House on the corner of 119th and Cornell Road.
Bring your family and friends for a crisp fall afternoon of old-time fun. We’ll be pressing apples and sipping cider while enjoying a delicious barbecue lunch. There will be music, games for the kids and more.
See how the pioneers made cider with antique, hand-cranked presses and sample the cider. Listen to Ida Viper, a great bluegrass and old-time music band, and enjoy barbecue sandwiches and hot dogs, plus apple crunch and ice cream. Find out more about Cedar Mill history and the plans for the historic JQA Young House.
Area Boy Scouts run the antique apple presses to turn 600 pounds of Hood River apples, donated by Bales Thriftway, into sweet, fresh cider.
Local award-winning barbecue team Burnt Ends BBQ will provide pulled pork and shredded beef brisket sandwiches, with coleslaw and chips for $6, or hot dogs and chips for $4. Cedar Mill’s Leedy Grange will serve freshly made apple crunch and vanilla ice cream for $3. Plenty of tables are set up for you to enjoy your meal with your friends and neighbors.
A portion of the proceeds from the food sales will go to the restoration fund for the John Quincy Adams Young House. Donations are welcome.
THPRD will bring along the Rec Mobile to provide games and activities for kids under the spreading hickory tree. Other community groups will be providing information about their activities, along with craft merchants from Cedar Mill’s Farmers’ Market. And members of the Friends of the JQA Young House will be on hand with information about the house and plans to restore it.
Free parking will be available after 1 p.m. in the Cedar Mill Bible Church parking lot.
