Big Truck Day at Conestoga Recreation & Aquatic Center gets bigger each year, and this year’s edition is shaping up to be the biggest yet.
Thousands of patrons will converge on Conestoga on Saturday, Aug. 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for a fun and free event featuring more than 75 trucks and specialty vehicles of all shapes and sizes.
Climb aboard, honk the horns and admire the view from the driver’s seat of these big rigs.
Newly featured this year is a Kool Pak 53-foot tractor/trailer refrigeration truck. Most other attractions are favorites from years past: a KPTV Fox 12 satellite news gathering truck, a Terex crane and knuckle boom, a 48-foot Con-way freight truck, assorted ODOT vehicles, an American Red Cross blood mobile, TriMet and Beaverton School District buses, and a Franz Bakery truck.
Other highlights include a video game truck, monster trucks, a fire truck, an ambulance, a Life Flight helicopter, a PGE bucket truck, Al Kader Shriners locomotive and calliope, a Lenco BearCat armored truck, and six Silver limousines.
Trucks aren’t the day’s only star attraction. Conestoga will welcome several local mascots: Chuck E. Cheese, Geoffrey (Toys “R” Us), Clifford the Big Red Dog (Scholastic Books), Sweet Treat (Sweet Tomatoes), the Red Robin (Red Robin restaurants), Incredibear! (John's Incredible Pizza Company) and Sassy Suds (Great Clips).
Kids can play video games in the game truck, win prizes, learn about truck safety, or hang out with visiting mascots. Lunch from Papa Murphy’s will be available for purchase.
