After School Program
Welcome to the Discovery Club after-school program
Discovery Club is a program that gives kids the opportunity to have fun, learn, and express themselves through a variety of activities, while maintaining a safe environment.
Philosophy
Children will benefit from interaction with other children and instructors in a fun and educational environment. In a friendly and supportive program, children should develop talents and recognize their importance, individually and within the community.
Our staff
Staff members have experience in elementary education, recreation leadership, and fine arts. Each staff member has standard first aid plus adult, child and infant CPR & AED certification. Before anyone works with the children we complete a criminal background check and staff training session.
Every staff member who drives the Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District vans must be 21 years old. They will have their driving record checked and be trained and approved to operate the vans.

We provide service to students of the following schools: Raleigh Park, Raleigh Hills, Vose, Montclair and McKay.

Staff offer aid in the development of math, reading and social skills. Children are introduced to fine arts, sports, games, music, drama, science, world cultures, community service and fabulous field trips!
Kinder Club offers opportunities for children to focus on personal growth, self-confidence, creative exploration, and communication. The Kinder Club vans will transport students from Raleigh Park, Raleigh Hills, McKay and Vose elementary schools. Montclair students ride the bus to Garden Home and will be met by a staff member.
Discovery Club (Grades 1-5)
Looking for a safe, enriching and fun place for kids in grades 1-5? Join us Monday through Friday, 3-6 p.m. Our program develops the emotional, social, intellectual and physical needs of each child as he or she makes new friends and explores the world.
We offer cultural activities, games, community service, sports, art, dance, music, science projects, fabulous field trips and more. We also offer "Study Buddies" for kids needing assistance with their homework.
Youth Enrichment Program for Middle School Students (Grades 6-8)
This program is for middle-school students who need a safe and positive place to go after school (3-6 p.m.). They will have time for homework, friends, art, sports and fun field trips. They will also participate in community service projects and more.
A special part of Y.E.P. is our Mentor Leadership Program. Available to middle schoolers at both Garden Home Recreation Center and McKay School, this program's focus is to develop confidence, leadership and communication skills. Mentors will be positive role models, work closely with staff to plan and lead activities for the younger kids.
Students from Whitford can walk to McKay School or ride the bus to Garden Home Recreation Center.
Homework assistance
Homework time is an essential part of the After School Program. Available at all levels of our program is our "Study Buddy Program." It includes a time to complete homework assignments and work on academically enriching activities. During this time your child will be encouraged to complete their assignments. Staff will supervise and assist them. We cannot guarantee that homework is completed or done accurately. Parents will still need to review their child’s assignments to ensure they are done completely and accurately.
