Gymnastics
Garden Home offers a comprehensiveand highly regarded gymnastics program for ages 3-13 and all abilities. Both the program and its coordinator, Jackie Wygant, have been at Garden Home for more than 20 years. Young people come from all over the Portland metro area to learn from this master teacher. The program is designed to develop sound gymnastic fundamentals with emphasis on strength, flexibility, coordination and self-confidence.
All students will receive individual and group instruction on the floor, beam, vault and bars. Great care is taken to promote expert instruction in an atmosphere that is fun, positive and safe. Parentsand spectators are invited to attend the first and last class in each session. Otherwise, in-room observation is by instructor approval only.
For your child's safety, students more than 15 minutes late will miss mandatory warmups and therefore will forfeit participation in that class. This is strictly enforced.
Class Guidelines
- Students should wear comfortable clothing and no shoes.
- Always start your child in the lowest age-appropriate class, then move up as recommended by the instructor. Progress varies widely for each student and most gymnasts repeat each level 2-3 times before moving up. We do tumbling activities, mini-tramps, rope, beam, bars and other games and activities related to gymnastics.
- Our physical goals include improvements in the following: muscular strength, balance, endurance, flexibility, gross and fine motor control.
- Our behavioral goals include 1) building confidence and self-worth, 2) cooperation, taking turns and sharing with others, 3) listening and following teacher's directions, and 4) positive, caring and respectful interaction with peers.
