Morrison Woods is an 18.5-acre natural area with mature stands of Douglas-fir, Western red cedar, and big leaf maples. The park has a stream and a small population of checkermallow, an uncommon wildflower. About seven acres of the park experienced a large tree die-back. Our vision is to restore this area to a mixed evergreen-deciduous community of plants similar to what is already on site. We are controlling weeds and replanting in phases over a five-year period, which began in 2004. A soft-surface path has been constructed through this section of the park as part of an Eagle Scout advancement project. In February 2006, about 3,000 saplings were planted in the restoration area covering nearly six acres.
