Specialized Recreation
The THPRD Specialized Recreation Program is designed to give persons with developmental disabilities the opportunity to participate in recreational, educational and leisure classes, events and field trips within the community and surrounding area.
We provide the following recreation programs for people with disabilities (developmental, learning and physical disabilities and mental illness) through our Specialized Recreation Program. Registration is required for all activities:
- Arts & Crafts: Painting-Acrylics, Watercolor, themed projects, etc.
- General Interest: Music, Cooking, etc…
- Sports & Fitness: Aerobics, Yoga, Bowling, etc.
- Field Trips

Mission Statement
Tualatin Hills Parks and Recreation Department provides recreation programs for people of all abilities. Our primary goal is to provide opportunities for learning and growth through recreation and leisure activities. Specialized Recreation Program opportunities are available for individuals who choose to participate in activities specially designed and conducted by trained staff to best meet their needs. Though typically designed for individuals with developmental disabilities, Specialized Recreation programs are available to persons of ALL abilities.
Participant Profile
Participants in the Specialized Recreation Program are required to fill out a Specialized Recreation Program Emergency medical information form prior to participating in any program activity. This form is used to provide emergency contact, health conditions, case management and specific accommodation needs of individual participants. Therapeutic Recreation (TR drop-in)
This is a recreation and socialization program for teens and adults (ages 13+) with developmental disabilities. Join us for dances, arts and crafts, game night, off-site activities and much more. Mondays: 6:30-8:30 p.m. (unless otherwise noted)
Location: Elsie Stuhr Center, 5550 SW Hall Blvd., Beaverton (except for off-site activities)
Cost: $1 per person weekly
Participation is on a drop-in basis & requires the following:
- Completed Specialized Recreation Medical/Emergency Information form
- Sign up before attending, if you are a new participant
- Those requiring 1:1 assistance must bring an aide & must stay for the entire duration of the activity at the AC.
Pass available for 5 TR drop-in activities for $5.
John McClure Memorial Drop-in Sports: Basketball
Take this opportunity to play pickup games of basketball.
Thursday: 6:30-7:50 pm Cost: $1 each time

Participation is on a drop-in basis & requires the following:
- Completed Specialized Recreation Medical/Emergency Information form
- Sign up before attending, if you are a new participant
- Complete & sign a TR Sports Guidelines waiver form
- Those requiring 1:1 assistance must bring an aide & must stay for the entire duration of the activity at the AC.
- Participants are REQUIRED to phone-in sign up for the basketball program, 24-hours in advance, in order to play, NO EARLIER! First come, first serve basis. Please call the Elsie Stuhr Center at 503/629-6342 to sign up.

Inclusion
Mission Statement
THPRD promotes the power of choice to enhance the quality of life for individuals of all abilities by providing diverse accessible recreation in an environment that promotes dignity, success and fun. Specialized Recreation offers programs designed for individuals with developmental disabilities (ages 13 and up). Through inclusion services, the district may provide reasonable staff support for those who prefer other THPRD programs and/or activities.
