AQUATIC CERTIFICATION TRAINING
Junior Lifeguard Training
Participants receive comprehensive training in the knowledge, attitude and skills necessary to prepare for the Lifeguard Training Program. Strong swimming skills required (level G+). Volunteer opportunities available for those who successfully complete the program.
Lifeguard Training
Course focuses on the job of a lifeguard in a swimming pool environment. Emphasis is on victim recognition, surveillance, equipment-based rescues, First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer. This course is very swim-intensive (Level H+).
Prerequisites:
- 300-yard swim (utilizing crawl stroke and breast stroke).
- Swim 20 yards, submerge to a depth of 7-10 feet and retrieve a 10-pound brick. When returning with the brick 20 yards to the starting point, you must maintain your head, hands and brick out of the water and exit the water (without using ladder or steps) within one minute and 40 seconds.
Certification requirements:
- Attend all class hours; course is 30-plus hours with 10 participants per instructor.
- Successfully complete all required skill testing in CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid and Lifeguarding certifications.
- Score 80 percent on the CPR for the Professional Rescuer and Lifeguarding written exams.
