Spring native plant sale set for April 26 at Tualatin Hills Nature Park Interpretive Center
April 07, 2014
The Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District hosts its 14th annual Spring Native Plant Sale on Saturday, April 26, at the Tualatin Hills Nature Park Interpretive Center (15655 SW Millikan Way, Beaverton). The free event takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Gardeners of all ages can select from more than 150 species of trees, shrubs, ground covers and perennials.
List of available plants
“This event provides an opportunity for anyone to create a backyard habitat for people, birds, butterflies, pollinators and other wildlife,” said Karen Munday, program coordinator at the Nature Park Interpretive Center.
Native plants, once established, have greater wildlife benefits and require less care, water, fertilizer and pesticide than non-native ornamental plants. A small selection of native plants, including trilliums and other early-blooming wildflowers, are already available at the Nature Park Interpretive Center during business hours (8:30 am to 5 pm on weekdays and 9 am to 5 p.m. on weekends).
Visitors to the sale will have a wealth of resources at their disposal. They can talk to knowledgeable staff, including park rangers and plant experts, or grab plant information sheets to learn more about building the perfect garden oasis. A resource fair will provide gardeners a chance to talk to community partners about how native plants impact wildlife, water conservation and reduce pesticide usage.
The Spring Native Plant Sale is sponsored by the Friends of the Tualatin Hills Nature Park. Proceeds will support environmental education programs and future improvements at the Tualatin Hills Nature Park, a 222-acre wildlife reserve in the heart of Beaverton.
The Nature Park Interpretive Center hosts education and recreation programs for children, adults and families – including summer camps – throughout the year.
