Campbell promoted to superintendent of Maintenance Operations
May 02, 2014
Jon Campbell, a 25-year veteran of the Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District, has been promoted to superintendent of Maintenance Operations. The job is based at THPRD’s Fanno Creek Service Center near downtown Beaverton.
Campbell, a Beaverton resident, has spent his entire THPRD career in Maintenance, holding a variety of positions. For the past four years, he has been capital project management and support supervisor.
In his new job, Campbell oversees maintenance of all athletic facilities, buildings, pools, parks and vehicles. The department is THPRD’s largest, employing about 130 full-time-equivalent employees and accounting for more than a quarter of the district’s annual budget.
He succeeds Dave Chrisman, who will retire on May 30 after 35 years with the district. Chrisman has been superintendent of Maintenance since August 1991.
Campbell joined the park district in May 1989 as a part-time seasonal employee in Athletic Facilities Maintenance. He worked his way up through Athletic Facilities Maintenance and was named coordinator of the group in June 2001, a position he held for nine years. He was promoted to capital project management and support supervisor for all Maintenance groups in July 2010.
Campbell said his primary goal initially is to maintain the high quality standards that Chrisman has set for the department. He and his supervisors have already begun visiting THPRD sites to see them first-hand and talk to employees.
“I’m proud of what our Maintenance team is doing and want to let them know that,” he said.
“I feel very fortunate for this opportunity,” he added. “I also know I have some big shoes to fill.”
