THPRD-BSD deal to create new sports fields in south Beaverton

The Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District and Beaverton School District have signed an agreement that will allow the park district to build a new synthetic turf athletic field at Conestoga Middle School, 12250 SW Conestoga Drive, Beaverton.
The deal was closed last Friday, Dec. 19.
The park district has been searching for an optimal location in the southeast quadrant to fulfill a commitment made to voters in its 2008 bond measure, which was to respond to steadily increasing demands for field space. THPRD will be able to use the field after school hours and on weekends.
The agreement is for 25 years, with the first 12 guaranteed. BSD has the option at the end of 12 years to relocate the field if needed for school construction, although school district officials consider that unlikely to happen. Field construction is expected to occur in the summer of 2016.
It is the latest in a series of intergovernmental agreements between BSD and THPRD for shared use of fields and facilities. The partnership between the two districts has existed since 1964.
"This agreement exemplifies our efforts to efficiently and creatively leverage our resources and partnerships for the public good," said THPRD General Manager Doug Menke. "Once again, we thank our partners at the school district."
"Our community benefits greatly when we work together to create enhanced spaces for athletic activities," said Beaverton School District Superintendent Jeff Rose.
