Timberland Park to be celebrated at July 13 concert
The Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District has scheduled a dedication ceremony during intermission of its regularly scheduled concert performance on July 13 at Timberland Park in the Cedar Mill area (11620 NW Stone Mountain Lane, Portland).
The ceremony will celebrate development of the park and other THPRD recreational amenities at Timberland.
The free concert, featuring Trashcan Joe, will begin at 6 pm at the park. During the intermission at about 7 pm, a brief ceremony with spoken remarks and ribbon-cutting will be held. The band will then return to the stage and play until the 8 pm conclusion.
THPRD will provide free cake and several door prizes, including tickets to the district’s Aug. 19 Groovin’ on the Grass concert with Quarterflash, Curtis Salgado and Nu Shooz. The THPRD Rec Mobile and THPRD Nature Mobile will offer a variety of fun activities for children and park district employees will host an information table.
Timberland Park is located on the old Teufel Nursey site, right across the street from a new middle school built by the Beaverton School District. Highlights include a splash pad water feature, play equipment, public plaza with seating and drinking fountain, and an open lawn area for picnicking and play.
There are many more recreational amenities in the Timberland community, most of which THPRD owns, operates and maintains. These include additional play equipment and picnic areas, trails, creeks and wetlands. An all-accessible elevated boardwalk and viewing deck on the Cedar Mill Creek Greenway overlooks the historic Cedar Mill Creek Falls.
Altogether, the parks and trails encompass nearly 20 acres.
Polygon Northwest created the amenities while developing the Timberland community, which features housing and retail stores. The company subsequently transferred ownership, operation and maintenance of the features to THPRD.
“We’re pleased with how everything turned out,” said Doug Menke, THPRD general manager. “It looks good, and we’re confident the residents will enjoy using all the amenities for years to come.”
