The Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District is now accepting applications for a vacant position on its five-member elected board of directors. The deadline is Feb. 7.
Candidates must live within THPRD boundaries, which span 50 square miles of the greater Beaverton area, encompassing not only the City of Beaverton but unincorporated areas like Rock Creek/Bethany, Cedar Mill, Raleigh Hills and Aloha. Candidates must also be registered to vote with the Washington County Elections Office.
Applications are available at the park district’s Administration Office, 15707 SW Walker Road, Beaverton, or online. For more information, call Jessica Collins, executive assistant, at 503-645-6433 or send an email to email@example.com.
Based on discussions at the Jan. 9 board meeting, board members plan to announce their appointee on March 12. Prior to that decision, candidates will undergo a thorough assessment based on their qualifications and suitability.
The appointee will serve until June 30, 2019. A public election will then be held to determine who will serve the remainder of the open seat’s term, which is set to expire June 30, 2021. That election will happen in the spring of 2019.
Also on Jan. 9, the board voted Ali Kavianian as new president. Felicita Monteblanco was elected board secretary and John Griffiths was approved as secretary pro-tempore.
Formed in 1955, THPRD is the largest special park district in Oregon, spanning 50 square miles and serving about 240,000 residents in the greater Beaverton area. The district provides year-round recreational opportunities for people of all ages and abilities. Offerings include thousands of widely diverse classes, 95 park sites with active recreational amenities, nearly 70 miles of trails, eight swim centers, six recreation centers, and about 1,500 acres of natural areas.
